Leading from realism
I distinctly remember a workshop I attended in 1995. Speaker Jim Wideman (still very actively mentoring ministry leaders here) taught me the valuable lesson to “think bigger.” I am not sure what he called it, but in essence, he told the audience that one of the reasons your ministry is not larger/better/more effective than it was last year is because you’ve set up an infrastructure, systems and...
America in Color from 1939-1943 →
These images, by photographers of the Farm Security Administration/Office of War Information, are some of the only color photographs taken of the effects of the Depression on America’s rural and small town populations. The photographs are the property of the Library of Congress and were included in a 2006 exhibit Bound for Glory: America in Color.
I loved this video, again. I took another 2 pages of notes. I believe this is the 3rd time I’ve seen this talk, but it is as profound as the first time I heard Ken speak.
Don't be a Green Roomer! #kidmin →
Last week I was at Group Publishing. We were planning out a new KidMin conference that you will hear about soon. We were discussing key note speakers. One thing that we all agreed on was that we wanted key note speakers who were accessible. We don’t want someone who comes in, stays in the Green Room…

Faith Is Not a Subject | Holy Soup →
People describe the Christian faith as a “personal relationship with Jesus.” But in the church, how have we gone about encouraging and developing that relationship with Christ? Sadly, our church services, classes and programs rarely pursue that relationship like, well, like a real relationship. It’s not for lack of good intentions. At some point, years ago, we somehow got the idea that the church...

It’s OK to brush off the bagel that fell from the stroller onto the sidewalk and give it to your screaming child, for example, because the pavement is cleaner than the kitchen floor in terms of the types of germs that cause illnesses.
Your kitchen is disgusting.

Three sites that help you own less
I have always hated the fact that I own quite a few items we only use “religiously,” only at Christmastime, Easter and on Mother’s Day (so to speak). I’m thinking of my camping gear (we use it every other summer, if that), our selection of ice chests of various sizes and purposes, pressure washer, lawn mower and meat smoker (trust me, you can’t smoke everything, every...
