Alignment Dilemma
I am realizing that one of the principal reasons why I don’t “go for the ask” in order to give away key ministry responsibilities, and why I hesitate to pull in volunteers to join and participate in the process of planning, organizing and “strategizing” key programs from the ground floor is due to our values. One of Cornerstone’s important values is to stay true to “what Cornerstone is, and is not.” We fight against what we perceive are cheesy, old-school ways of doing ministry. That translates into the (sometimes extreme) care we take to choose the “right” people for each area of ministry. No one who might jeopardize the alignment of the direction is allowed on the bus.
I believe it’s time that I take more risks and allow volunteers to take ownership of certain areas of ministry, even if I am not completely sure that they’ll take it the exact direction I envision. I take the risk and then do the work to correct, re-adjust and re-cast the vision constantly.
